KB’s 2016 Highlights

2016 has flown by, and as it winds down, we reflect on what we have done at Klein Buendel (KB) to achieve our primary goal of creating effective programs and products for health promotion and disease prevention. We are thankful for the research, education, and outreach opportunities that we have participated in and we are looking forward to continuing our efforts in 2017.

Research Round-Up: Cost-Effectiveness of Male HPV Vaccination

In December 2015, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a call-to-attention for the benefits of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for boys aged 11-12 years of age stating that “every year, over 900,000 males are affected by cancers caused by HPV infections.”1

Addressing End-of-Life Care Needs of Prisoners

Dr. Janice Penrod (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Susan Loeb from the College of Nursing at Penn State University and Dr. Valerie Myers from Klein Buendel (KB) are leading a new Phase II STTR research project at KB entitled, “Enhancing Care for the Aged and Dying in Prisons (ECAD-P).” ECAD-P is working to decrease the barriers for older and dying prisoners to receive the care that they need.
