Using Community Coalitions to Improve Health Behaviors

What has happened to all of the research on the effectiveness of using community coalitions to improve the health of local communities?  Bringing a group of local citizens together to reduce tobacco use, increase childhood vaccination rates, or increase physical activity among the citizenry has been a popular tactic for many years.  Look at the research literature in health behavior during the 1980s and 1990s and you will find dozens of studies attempting to determine the effectiveness of community coalitions in improving health.

Imagine that you want to find out how people are using our public parks.  Do people picnic in the park?  Exercise in the park? Come to let their children play on the swings?Technology changes have made your task much easier than a researcher would have faced in 1972, just 40 years ago.
