Every 8 seconds a baby is born in the United States resulting in almost 4 million women becoming a new mother each year. Thus, millions of women a year face a life-altering transition that can change their life dramatically. Such changes can demonstrably alter their priorities in life, including their pursuit of and interest in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity or exercise.

Research Roundup: Pregnancy and Exercise

Recently, Klein Buendel and the University of Hawaii partnered together to create a postpartum exercise program called Momzing. The program is for moms who want to increase their physical activity after giving birth (DA031402; C. Albright, PI).  We know that it is important for mothers to safely increase levels of exercise after birth, and Momzing provides new moms with guided videos that demonstrate how to exercise with her baby. In addition to postpartum physical activity, research has also shown that exercise during pregnancy is important, too. The following articles were published in October 2014, and discuss exercise during pregnancy.

Klein Buendel Presents at NHLBI Conference

Klein Buendel, Inc. presented its exercise program for new mothers before an audience of potential investors and partners at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Innovation Conference in San Francisco. Held Sept. 10, the conference brought together small businesses, angel investors, venture capitalists, strategic partners, and business leaders from the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

Bike to Work Day

Colorado residents celebrate Bike To Work Day on the fourth Wednesday of June, which the state legislature designated as Colorado Bike Month. We spoke with Klein Buendel, Inc. Project Coordinator Lyndsay Fluharty, who participated in the event. She pedaled more than 26 miles roundtrip to get to work and back.

Physical Activity and Depression in Kids and Teens
